- Commodity
- Gold
- Stage
- Full feasibility study — delivered
- Geography
- Kakamega County, Kenya
The situation
Kenya's artisanal gold from Kakamega and Vihiga largely left the region unrefined. The State Department of Mining asked whether a national refinery could change that.
What we did
A full technical and economic feasibility study: field campaign across artisanal sites, refining technology and plant design, assay laboratory, market and value-chain study, risk assessment, and stakeholder consultation from the Cabinet Secretary to miners' representatives.
Result
A refinery sized at 52,000 troy ounces (about 1.6 tonnes) of refined gold per year, with a positive NPV of US$37 million and an economic NPV of US$2.5 billion.
